The Most Serious Shopping Trip Ever Filmed

The Most Serious Shopping Trip Ever Filmed

How Cartesian repositioned Outlet Collection at Niagara from a quick stop to a full-day destination.

Outlet Collection at Niagara does not have an awareness problem. With about 5 million visitors every year, it is one of the largest visitation draws in the region. The problem was subtler, and harder: most of those visitors treat the centre as a stop, not a destination. Something you fit in on the way to the Falls. Twenty minutes in, twenty minutes out.

The summer 2026 brief asked us to change that. More visitation, specifically more families, with trackable data behind every dollar so ROI could be measured. In plain terms: make people from the Greater Toronto Area decide to give the centre a day instead of squeezing it into a quick trip.

Why that brief is harder than it looks

Retail centres market with product, and product marketing sells a transaction. A transaction is a twenty minute decision that somebody can make in a parking lot. Handing a place a whole day is different. It is a commitment that gets planned in advance, especially for larger families. Which means the argument has to be won long before anyone gets in the car.

The insight: make the planning the story

We started with a behavioural understanding of how people actually plan a Niagara trip. Visitors coming down from the GTA are juggling multiple stops, and our goal was for Outlet Collection at Niagara to earn a day of its own. Between the food court, the playground, and the sheer scale of the shopping, you can easily spend four to six hours there and forget what time you arrived.

That was the argument the campaign needed to make. And once we had it, the creative question stopped being how to sell the shopping and became how to make the planning itself the story.

The idea

The film is a cinematic misdirect that frames a shopping trip as a high-stakes operation. It leans all the way into intensity and precision, then reveals the humour behind it.

The logic is simple once you say it out loud. If the place deserves a day of its own, the most entertaining way to prove it is to show somebody planning that day like their life depends on it. We wanted the audience to spend the first half of the spot genuinely unsure what they were watching, and the second half laughing, because almost every family has somebody exactly like her in it.

Around the film sits a full campaign world under one line: A Day Well Spent. Four photography-led executions carry it across the day trip audience, from "shop, sip, and stay a while" to "big days for little adventurers," "better days are shared, bring your best friend," and "style that goes further, for less." One idea, one voice, every reason a family needs to give the centre a day.

In their words

"I am blown away by the content!! The video and photography are amazing, I am extremely happy with what you have been able to create!!"Lauren Westra, Director of Marketing, Outlet Collection at Niagara

What comes next

The day trip concept is now running across paid media, built with trackable data behind it so every incremental visit can be measured against the brief. That is how we work: bold creative on the front end, accountable numbers on the back end.
